Conner's birth story

Wow...I do believe that's all I can say about the whole experience!
I keep looking at him and thinking is he really mine? Its hard to believe that the little tiny face I'm looking at has grown inside of me for so long.

Okay, now to the story...

We woke up at 3:45am on Friday 4/22/05 to get ready to go to the hospital. It sort of felt like on my wedding day all of the jitters and nerves that I had. We left the house around 4:50 to be at the hospital by 5 am. (Luckily we only live 5 min. from the hospital.) When we arrived at the hospital we did the whole admit thing, then we walked up to the room. It was really funny b/c the transporter was shocked that I wanted to walk up to the room instead of being wheeled up there. I told them that I was going to be in the bed for a while, I need to walk...lol

When we got up to L&D, the "vampire" was waiting to get my blood for tests. Then, I was instructed to go change into the lovely gown. When I got on the bed they did a quick u/s just to make sure Conner was still head down and thankfully he was.

I was very fortunate to be able to request my nurse. Billy knew one of the nurses b/c he used to work with her, so my OB asked if she would make sure she was working that day. She was wonderful! When she got there she checked me and said I was about 3 cm and 70%. I asked her how long she thought it would take and she said she wasn't sure. They started me on IV around 6:30 am and my OB came in and broke my water around 7:30. After about the 5th contraction I asked for my much needed epidural (*sidebar- those of you who had yours w/out epidurals God bless you, my contractions were making me so nauseous.) I didn't feel anymore contractions after that.

About 2:30 I started pushing. Billy on one side helping and my nurse on the other. Between pushes Billy had to go to the bathroom and throw up b/c later we found out he had food poisoning from a birthday party we went to the night before. So, I would push, then he would go throw up. I pushed for about an hour and at 3:34pm Conner Andrew arrived into the world face up! He weighed 7lbs. 7oz. and was 21 in. long.

My nurse said he would have come earlier if he would have been face down. When I heard his voice I was the happiest person in the world. Billy wasn't able to help me push the last couple of pushes so my nurse had another nurse to come in and help. Billy was able to cut the cord, but as soon as the rest of our family came in to see us he said "I'm glad to see all of you, but I've got to go to the ER." So, while family and friends Billy and my mother-in-law were down in ER. He was eventually admitted about 9:30 that night because the Dr. he saw said he was pretty sure it was food poisoning, but didn't want to risk him being near the baby if it was a virus. He was released the next morning and made a beeline straight to our room!

Everyone is doing great now. I've had a case of the baby blues the past couple of days. That's why its taking me so long to post my story. If I get a good cry out of the way, I'm usually good for the rest of the day. The past two nights Conner has slept from 11-7 the next morning, not waking up one time. And I'm having to wake him up then.

He slept through the night his third night home. I woke up in a panic because I thought something was wrong with him. He was just fine!

Home from the hospital

We came home from the hospital around 11:00 on Sunday morning. Meme and Paw Paw brought Mommy and Daddy lunch. Aunt Amanda and Uncle Chad brought us supper. Conner had his first visitors. People from our church brought us supper every night.

He's here!

Conner came into the word on April 22, 2005 at 3:34 p.m.! Weighing in at 7 pounds and 7 ounces.

False labor

Woke up feeling "crampy" in my back. It would come and go. Billy and I went shopping and it was still cramping a little as well as my stomach getting hard. We called Sharee (Dr. Vance's nurse) around 11 am and she told me to go ahead and go to the hospital. We went and got settled in the room. (I was the only one in L&D.) They put me on the monitors and there were no contractions showing up. I was dilated 2 cm. I was sent home.

Felt him move!

I was driving up I-65 going to my parent's house to meet Momma and my sister, Kelsey to go to shopping. I felt something while I was driving. It felt like I was being poked, but from the inside. I told Momma about it and she said it was Conner moving!

Ultrasound showed I'm a BOY!!!

Billy, both of our mom's and I found out Conner was a boy while we went to have a level 3 ultrasound at the University of South Alabama High Risk clinic. We also found that we had lost Baby B at around 11 weeks.
